I have an Oracle database table with 1.5m rows of data. I need a Tableau report that sits over this table and filters the returned rows based on the login ID of the Tableau user. The login ID will represent a user in an organisational hierarchy. There are 4 levels to the hierarchy. Depending on which user logs in the data should be summed up to their level based on their reportees. If a manager has two employees one makes a sale of £50 and the other makes a sale of £75 then each employee logging in should see their own value i.e. £50 and £75 respectively. If their manager logs in then they should see a value of £125 and so on up the organisation hierarchy.

To whom it may concern, I am a Tableau certified and software developer based in Dublin. I’ve been working with Tableau software since version 7 and with software development for more than 10 years. You can use an ‘User filter’ on Tableau to give and restrict access on row level, according to the user. I main issue in this case é that every time that you have a new user you must change the report manually to grant access. One way to solve this is create a table on your database to save the users and respective group that hi belongs, and create a view to provide the data to Tableau with the group access; so Tableau will filter the group.
