In describing someone who is very busy, reference is often made to the bee, such “as busy as the bee”. The bees work round the clock gathering nectar from all kind of flowers and fruits to fill the wax with honey. The bee hive then becomes the centre of attraction because a lot of sweet essence (honey) is gathered in there. It then becomes the desire of everyone to reach the hive and collect the honey. However, the bees being aware of this guide the hive jealously and are ready to attack any intruder at any time of the day. It therefore require courage and strength for any one to get into a bee hive and take away the honey. But the hunter armed with protective clothing and fire is able to break into the bee hive chase the bees away or burn them with fire and collect the honey. All the years of labour by the bees is gone in a twinkle of an eye, many of them die and those who escape and survive are left to start all over again. The bees that labour to gather the honey do not know its value neither can they sell it and make some dollars, because this does not exist in their own world. Their interest is to build it and protect it and feed on it in the time of scarcity. But the hunter knows the value of the honey. He reaps from where the bees have sown and make all the profit there is to make. This is the irony of life a lot people labour to sow, others come and rip the fruits of their labour. They are left stranded to continue the struggle for survival or may even die in the process. Yes this is the story of HIV-Aids and those who engage in promiscuity to make easy money. They are the bees and HIV – Aids is the hunter. Young girls who troop into the cities of the world today to work the streets and sell their bodies and make quick money should know that soon there will be another story to tell. You work round the clock like the bee, you see the money rolling in (gathering nectar), your bank account growing fat by the day but the hunter is waiting around the corner for the day to strike. While it last you are on top of the world, you live a classy lifestyle, you can afford whatever you want, you even hire body guards this is just for a moment. In the presence of the body guards AIDS will crawl in , they cannot stop him with physical arms. You are gradually devasted and your strength and beauty begin to fade away. Alas! who is going to enjoy all the wealth you have gathered. Who is going to milk the honey from the honey comb and sell to the buyers? Someone who was not there while you were busy round the clock using your body to make all the money. like the bees you may not even be remembered, neither will you exist anymore in the world where riches are relevant. You can make the right decision today. Join the fight against HIV and AIDS. Stop walking the city streets hawking your body for a fee, choose are more decent occupation or profession; stop being the busy bee whose labour cannot be secured for tomorrow. Do not be attracted by temporary honey that will pass away in no time, be attracted by that honey that will always be there for you, with honour and integrity.
