Introduction
Emotional intelligence, (EQ) is one of the most recent behavior models associated with Daniel Goleman’s writings. This theory was first developed between 1970 and 1980 by three psychologists, John Jack Mayer of New Hampshire, Peter Salovey of Yale University and Howard Gardner of Harvard University. It has its application in organizational development as well as developing people through assessment and deep understanding of their behavior.
The concept of emotional intelligence argues that intelligence quotient (IQ) of a person is a very narrow discipline, and that emotional intelligence is a wider area that dictates how successful one can be. Being academically brilliant does not guarantee social and interpersonal fitness. Success is more than possessing high intelligent quotient. It has a lot to do with emotional intelligence.
