I have a customer whose site uses a Java applets with a "scoreboard" look where he runs several messages. It looks like the LED message boards that a lot of stadiums used to use before HD digital boards came along.
Now that very few people have Java enabled, he's looking for an alternative with a similar look and functionality.
Here's the code being used (unfortunately I can't find the applet itself):.
Please enable Java in your browser to view our messages here or visit [login to view URL] for the latest free secure runtime download!
Any suggestions as to how it can be replaced?

If you know exactly how the scoreboard works I can recreate it in Silverlight.
Regarding Silverlight it doesn't work on smart phones except Windows Phones.
For everything else there is not problem. There is still a part to review related to the integration in the whole underline system.
hello buyer, alternative to java applet is possible with combination of html5 canvas api and javascript. but for this user will need to use most recent web browser, otherwise it will not work. if this is enough for you please let me know. it will take little bit more time then expected. because i am familiar with canvas api and amination but haven't done this kind of job before. thanks

Don't use silverlight. It's just as bad as using Java applets : ) The most cross-browser and elegant solution is to simply use Javascript and CSS. HTML5 is nice but only works in modern browsers (and not really necessary).
