Hello Sir, I have extensive developing imaging processing experiences in my daily work and study, involving advanced mathematical and physical theories. You problem looks like a widely discussed subject. and I have confident to finish it as you wish. I plan to use c++ and OpenCV to do the video interface, since OpenCV is cross-platform, it's easy to transfer to run under linux. First about the patent, most of them are based on application, that is motion magnification. However, your detection aren't for a human to visually 'see' the motion, but just try to get the pulse number. We can ditch the 'amplifying' part of those methods, but only use the 'filtering' part to clean the video and leave only the useful frequency band(breathing range 30-60/min for baby, thus 1-2hz, plus some abnormal range, let's say 0.5-4hz) then after filtering, find the dominant frequency of frame difference.
