Asterisk to ZenDesk integration via API

We have an Asterisk/FreePBX-based phone system that powers our customer service call queue. We also use ZenDesk for our customer service issue tracking. We would like to use the ZenDesk Voice API to pop up a new ticket on-screen when a customer service agent answers the call. The call flow works like this:
1) Customer calls into phone system and selects the option for customer service. Customer service agent answers a call from the queue.
2) On the agent's computer, their ZenDesk window opens a new ticket with the title of "New call from customer service queue". The ticket is associated with the customer's account, which has been looked up based on the phone number the customer is calling from.
The underlying system is an Ubuntu 14.04 system, running FreePBX 13.
You will need to understand Asterisk variables (so that you can obtain the caller ID of the customer, and the extension of the agent who answered the call), as well as how to call scripts/system calls from Asterisk.
