Green technology (greentech) is the application of one or more of environmental science, green chemistry, environmental monitoring and electronic devices to monitor, and conserve the natural environment and resources. The term is also used to describe sustainable energy generation technologies such as photovoltaic , wind turbines, bioreactors etc. Green technology aims to counter negative impact of human activities, and thus boost the quality of life in all living communities. It seeks the conservation and the more responsible use of natural resources, with emphasis on finding more renewable resources. India may be gearing to turn itself into global leader in solar power generation. Indian plan outlines a target for 20,000 megawatts of solar capacity by 2020. In the last 10-15 years, many scientists and NGOs have raised awareness about the damages that industrialization has caused to our environment and from time to time also suggested some corrective measures very much required at this point of time. Some causes of the damage to the environment lies in the legislating and the regulating agencies of the country. The social awareness has already put our industry on the defensive. But due to the lack of availability of the green technologies in the country, our industrialists are at a loss to opt for the alternatives. However, the systematic promotion of green technologies need to be encouraged as an element of a new insurance paradigm based on sustainable development. With the potentials of business and innovation opportunity of green technology development, India could be a regional player in the green investment market.
