Component One: Audience Analysis Memo
1. Using at least five different resources including your textbook, research Indian business communication patterns more fully to learn what your audience expects in a traditional business communication. Make sure to consult the list of resources I have provided on Canvas as well as any resources available through libraries or through your own searches. In your research, you should find the following information:
• Identify whether India has a predominantly high-context culture or a low-context culture, making sure that your sources for this information are credible and reputable. How will this fact affect the way you write a business communication?
• Describe the professional communication style in India, such as organizational strategies, persuasive strategies, forms of courtesy, levels of formality, audience, tone, and ideas about efficiency. How does Indian professional communication style differ from the professional communication style we use in the United States? What problems and issues might arise in professional communication because of these differences?
2. Read the file “Bad News Letter for Project 3” assigned to this class for “translation” and revision. Using the research you have performed in step 2, assess and evaluate the letter’s problem areas, including organizational strategies, persuasive strategies, forms of courtesy, levels of formality, audience, tone, ideas about efficiency, and English usage, phrasing, and idioms that may be difficult for an ESL reader of any origin. In other words, what general and specific elements of the letter would you change for an Indian business audience?
3. Write a memo addressed to me using relevant headings and subheadings in which you present your Indian professional communication audience analysis, including an overview of your research on Indian business communication patterns and the assessment / evaluation of the file, Bad News Business Letter, on Canvas. Cite material gained from outside sources both in text and at the end of the memo in a bibliography. Failure to do so constitutes plagiarism. Your memo should be around two to three pages.
