Adaptation of Design and Construction Integration from a Lean Perspective RATIONALE: As stated by Bouchlaghem,D and Shelbourn,M ,(2012) for the construction industry to remain competitive in a global market and meet the needs of its ever demanding clients , it must adapt new ways of working. Within this drive project process integration has very often been identified has the key factor for improvement. Collaboratively working on a project is becoming a core part of management paradigms such as lean production. Moreover design and construction collaboration has become essential if the entire lifecycle of the construction project are taken into account. Lean philosophy aims to develop a systematic method which helps to enhance value and reduce waste. Despite the growing popularity of lean practice in many fields, lean design and construction has not been discussed within construction management. In the construction industry lean concept initially focused on production aspect only, but gradually lean design issues have started to receive attention. This has led to the development of integrated design and production process from a lean perspective. The purpose of the research is to identify working practices and collaborative processes for the implementation of ‘lean’. Moreover provide an overview of some of the major challenges and issues that might influence design and construction integration from a lean perspective.
