This is a 4 frame cartoon or illustration. The upper 2 frames will be identical to the lower two frames apart from an relatively large (when compared with the illustration) window. In the first two frames the blinds on the window are drawn, the window is closed. In the second two frames (placed below the first two) the blinds are open. What we see outside reveals the message of the cartoon.

The project is 2 contrasting pictures of a video conference call (Skype, facetime etc.) where, through each camera lens two adolescents are sitting at their desks in their bedrooms talking/conversing with one another via webcam. One is Caucasian the other is Middle Eastern/Arabic. Around the room and on the walls can be seen a variety of products from globally recognizable brands (Nike, Sony, Coke, Sports teams, Movie posters etc.) at least 5 of these globally recognizable brands. Taking up a large portion of the background of each illustration however is a closed window (blinds drawn). For all intents and purposes each youth could be said to appear the same.

The second frame of the image is identical however now the window is open and through the window we can see the reality of the world around each youth. The open window of the 'western' youth shows green grass and blue skies, a 3 car garage and perhaps a park and university or the like in the background with several happy youth maybe throwing a football or frizbee or involved in some other friendly activity. In the open window of the middle eastern youth we see tightly packed buildings, factories and smoke stacks, military planes flying overhead and some disenfranchised looking youth perhaps waiting in line for work or visas. Implications of struggle, poverty, war and other negative effects of globalization and consumerism.
